The June Midweek Run took place on a chilly and blustery day, but our resilient group embraced the weather and enjoyed the outing. On the 25th, we gathered at the clubrooms for a 9:00am departure. Roger and Elizabeth Payne led us across to Woodend and then up to Hepburn Springs.
We arrived at the amazing Mill Markets just in time to scurry inside as the rain began to fall. Our first stop was the Mill Cafe for morning tea, where we all enjoyed coffee and tea. Some of us indulged in scones with jam and cream, along with delicious treats like lemon meringue pies.
After our morning tea, it was time to explore the wonders of the Mill Market Stalls, which feature a diverse array of vintage and collectible goods. We found everything from Tupperware to motorcycle leathers, vinyl LPs, tools of all shapes and sizes, and various racks of clothing, hats, and gloves. The hats and gloves were especially tempting given the weather.
All too quickly our time to leave came around, and we hurried to our cars as the wind became quite bitter. We drove through the beautiful streets of Daylesford and Hepburn Springs to Rubens Restaurant, a Mediterranean-themed establishment. They had set up a long table for our group to share.
The food and drink service was timely and of excellent quality, with a selection of pizzas, pasta dishes, and some beautiful seafood served to our members. There were 29 people on this run, including three classic cars. As we drove back toward Gisborne, we encountered snow flurries, so let's hope the weather is a bit kinder on our next outing.
