Passion Defies the Forecast: The 39th Annual Picnic at Hanging Rock

While the balmy morning evoked a day that would be a stunner, it began with meteorologists predicting afternoon thunderstorms and rain, seasoned enthusiasts know that a Victorian forecast is rarely set in stone. Though the threat of rain may have led some to stay dry at home, it couldn't deter the truly dedicated who travelled from every corner of Victoria-and as far afield as the ACT, NSW, QLD, TAS, and even WA.

By the time the gates opened at 8:00 am, a steady stream of vehicles was already making its way into the park. The success of the morning was made possible by the dedicated volunteers of the Macedon Ranges and District Motor Club. Starting with an early breakfast before 8:00 am, our members were quickly dispersed to their posts to meet, greet, and park the hundreds of vehicles arriving for the day.

A Spectacular Display
What followed was a brilliant celebration of automotive history. The 900+ classic cars, motorbikes, trucks, and even pristine vintage buses created a stunning mosaic against the backdrop of the iconic Rock. Car clubs arrived in organised convoys, claiming prime picnic spots to set up displays and enjoy the mild, pleasant morning.

The atmosphere was vibrant and community-focused. Between the rows of polished chrome and picnic rugs, over 500 spectators with their friends and family who made up the general public, explored a diverse vendor marketplace. From auto memorabilia, "mancave" collectables, and auto art to ladies' apparel and essential laser parts, there was something for everyone.

Driving for a Cause
The Picnic has always been about more than just machinery; it's about heart. This year, we were proud to host a Shitbox Rally contestant raising funds for the Cancer Council https://autumn2026.shitboxrally.com.au/the-brick

Also joining us once again was the Brighter Days foundation, who organise The Brighter Days Festival 2026 Brighter Days Festival

A three-day, family-friendly fundraising event held over the March Labour Day weekend (6th - 8th March) in the beautiful township of Bright, Victoria. They worked tirelessly to support vital charities working to fight Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) and Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC)

Take a look at the awesome prizes to be won in their upcoming raffle ~ 2026 Brighter Days Raffle

Honouring Excellence
The day concluded with our annual awards presentation, made possible by our incredible long-term sponsors:

The day was a spectacular showcase of automotive history and club spirit. Here are the standout winners from the event:

The Major Awards

Shannons Selection "Cool Ride": Awarded to the 1957 Maroon Lancia Appia Coupe Motto. Imported from Italy five years ago, this is a 1-of-1 masterpiece with a fascinating racing pedigree.

Rare Spares "Real Restoration": Awarded to the vibrant Yellow Ford XA Sedan GT.

Rare Spares "Real Street": Awarded to the Blue Metallic Rambler Rebel, noted by judges for its clean, "cool" aesthetic.

Bowden's Own Selection: Awarded to a Holden HR Ute, recognised for its exceptional attention to detail and beautiful presentation.

MRADMC Members Selection (Motorcycle): Awarded to a stunning Maroon and Grey Indian Motorcycle

The Team Trophy: Was taken out by first time attendees Calder Classics.  Their display and camaraderie impress the judges.

Ian Goldsworthy Memorial Trophy: In its inaugural year, this trophy honours our late, dear friend-a dedicated member since the club's first meeting in 1984. This prestigious award was presented to club member Graeme Lemin for his beautiful Two-tone Blue & White Ford Customline 2-Door Wagon.

It wasn't just about the cars!

The kids were kept busy with face painting, train rides, and a petting zoo.
Lunch was well covered by the Macedon Scouts, the HR Cricket Club, and the Rotary Club, alongside a variety of food trucks. A special thanks to our friend and new sponsor Malcolm from Meerkat Caffeinators, who kept everyone energised with the best coffee on the Oval.

Despite the early weather warnings, the sun shone through for a warm, successful day. We thank every volunteer, entrant, and spectator who made the 39th Annual Picnic a day to remember.

We look forward to seeing you all again next year on the 14th of February 2027 for our 40th anniversary!
